Institute of American Music Foundation Created
The Institute of American Music Foundation is a newly created organization that will sponsor and encourage outreach events like music in the home, workshops, jam sessions, Fiddlefest contests and concerts and other events that were previously provided by The Institute of American Music. IAM will now be used solely as an internet business where Mark Geslison can sell the musical products he has developed.
The Institute of American Music Foundation (IAMF) is a non-profit and tax-exempt organization. One of its capacities will be to serve as an agency of sorts for family bands, ensembles and individuals to post their information (photo, bio and recorded music sample) for promotional purposes. The IAMF website will promote and market groups and individuals, enabling them to play at various events and venues such as Thanksgiving Point and Old Deseret Village. This will be a free service for IAMF participants. We also hope to provide recording facilities where individuals and groups can record samples for the website. Information regarding recording opportunities will follow in the September newsletter. Another Foundation goal is to sponsor an outreach program where underprivileged children can study acoustic music with highly trained teachers free of charge or at a reduced rate.
We envision IAMF as an educational site where people can log on to receive lessons, exams in theory, ear training, note reading, etc. in order to further their musical knowledge. All of this will require endowment funding, which is now in its early planning stages. We are excited and empowered by the capacity for good the Foundation has to make a positive contribution to the world through music education.
Jam Sessions Move to Library
Jam sessions and workshops will now both be held at the Provo library on a monthly rotation basis. August will be the month for the jam session and September will follow with a workshop. The first hour of the jam session will cater to beginners and the second will be for more advanced players. Beginners may want to stick around to watch the more advanced musicians during the second hour. We hope to see you at the last jam of the summer.

Workshop Questionnaire
We're interested in knowing what you would like to learn at upcoming workshops. Is there a particular musical artist you would like to see as a guest presenter? Perhaps a style of music you would like to learn about or a technique that might enhance your performance? Maybe you would like pointers on performing, practicing effectively or fundamentals on a particular instrument. We would truly like your input on subjects for upcoming workshops.
Please email your suggestions to Amy at amy@kdayton.com and we'll see what can be done to meet your musical needs.

IAMF Musicians Perform at Thanksgiving Point
Many of you have taken advantage of calling Thanksgiving Point to schedule a performance slotfor Fridays in the gardens or at the Farmers Market in the village. This opportunity is open to individuals, groups and family bands. It's a great way to gain some experience and earn some perks...like free golf or admittance to their great concerts at the waterfall or other Thanksgiving Point attractions. If you would like to play in the gardens contact Val Pahl at 768-7426. To perform during the Farmers Market call Candace Hayden at 407-8152.
Performers Needed August 13th
We have three 15 minute slots left to be filled for the August 13th performance at the Orem Retirement and Rehabilitation Center. Groups should plan on playing for 15 minutes, with 2 or 3 groups combined to provide an hour long show. The performance begins at 3:00. Bands should be well prepared to entertain an audience of around 50 people. If you have any questions or would like to reserve your performance spot, please call Sheri Cluff at 489-6836.

The Institute of American Music was founded in 1993 for the purpose of providing individuals and groups the opportunity to study traditional American and Bluegrass music. It provides a forum for students at all skill levels whereby they may learn from one another through means of individual lessons, group performances and informal workshops. The Institute provides a well-rounded musical experience for those desiring to develop their talents in acoustic music.
