May Jam Session
The May jam session will be held Thursday, May 18th at the Provo City Library in room 201 at 7:00. We look forward to another fun evening of music. Barn Dance Myth Untrue Our next barn dance will be held May 5th in Mapleton from 7:00-9:00. We invite you to come dance, listen to great live music and soak in the atmosphere of the barn. Please bring a potluck snack to share. Don't let the "barn" in barn dance fool you. This is not a barn for animals. It was built for people to come and enjoy a good time dancing and socializing. So, let your heart be not troubled. You won't come face to face with a cow as you swing your partner or step in something you'd rather not-- just watch out for your partner's toes. The barn was completed in 2005 and was specifically built as a venue for dances, concerts, reunions, parties, receptions etc. It has a complete kitchen, two bathrooms, a fireplace, piano, tables for eating and plenty of CLEAN concrete floor space for dancing. Click here for directions to the barn. Master Fiddle Workshop If you play fiddle, you'll want to take advantage of an incredible opportunity to learn from four nationally recognized champion fiddlers this month. These are four of the finest fiddlers in the United States, each with a unique perspective to offer class participants. This will be the first and possibly the only time these four will present together. In addition to being close friends, amazing musicians, and arguably some of the best contest fiddlers to grace the stage, this group has a love and appreciation for fiddle music that they are excited to share. Please bring your fiddle. Tuition is $50.00 in advance (received before May 15) or $60.00 at the door. You can receive your invitation by attending the workshop. Read their bios below to understand why this is an experience not to be missed.
With a Master's degree in Music Pedagogy, Danita is one of the most sought after fiddle teachers, regularly teaching at music festivals and fiddle camps across the USA. In addition to being a great teacher, she is the first woman to win the National Old-Time Fiddlers Grand National Championship, holding and defending that title 3 consecutive years. In addition to winning these titles, Danita has competed all over the country for over 20 years with similar unbeatable success.
One of the longest actively participating fiddle competitors in the country, John entered his first contest way back in 1967. During his fiddle career that spans over 40 years, he has known and competed against some of the most respected and well known fiddlers of all time. A four-time winner of national titles, John recently recorded his first fiddle CD in over two decades. This class will provide participants a unique chance to work with John, the first opportunity of its kind in over 20 years.
Playing bluegrass professionally with "3 Fox Drive", Megan is one of the most respected Nashville-based fiddlers working today. Megan's energy, drive and enthusiasm for fiddling is contagious and she has taught and performed in almost every state in the nation. Megan has won six national titles and has recorded two solo CDs of fiddle tunes. She is currently touring with "3 Fox Drive" and appears on their most recent chart topping CD "Listen to the Music".
While the youngest member of this fiddle quartet, Luke doesn't take a back seat in terms of musicality or fiddle contest success. A former National Junior and Jr. Jr. Fiddle Champion, Luke is consistently a top finalist in any fiddle contest he enters. Currently a student in jazz performance at the University of Utah, he plans to attend the famous Berklee School of Music in the fall. Luke also performs in several local bands, and has made a study of fiddle contest breakdowns.
