Celtic Barn Dance in March
In honor of St. Patrick's Day our March barn dance will have a Celtic theme with all tunes originating from Ireland and Scotland. The BYU Celtic Ensemble will be on hand to play reels and jigs for the dancers, but we still encourage other musicians to come join the band.
The dance will be held Friday, March 2nd from 7:00-9:00 at The Barn in Mapleton.
Please bring a snack to share (green optional) with your fellow dancers and musicians. We especially want to thank our hosts, Karen and Kelley Thueson, for allowing us the use of their wonderful facility each month. - Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing (Irish Aire) -Waltz
- Sailor's Hornpipe -Celtic Hornpipe
- St. Anne's Reel - (We'll play this one slow and use it for a Schottische, a Celtic dance)
- La Bastringe -French Canadian (This is technically not Celtic, but was influenced by the Irish and Scottish immigrants that settled in parts of Quebec).
Spring Fiddle Fest On the Horizon
The Spring Fiddle Fest will be held April 14th in the auditorium of the Tahitian Noni Building at Riverwoods in Provo. Unlike the Fall Fiddle Fest, this event is not a competition so you won't need to pay an entry fee or fill out a registration form. Groups of all sizes and levels, as well as individuals, are invited to perform three tunes on stage. Performances will begin at noon and proceed through the afternoon. This event is a great opportunity to gain performance experience and have some fun at the same time. Pizza parties will be awarded hourly to the performer or band which generates the greatest audience response–so bring your friends and family.
That evening a concert featuring the bluegrass bands Brushfire, Strung Together, Just Warming Up, BYU Celtic Ensemble and the BYU Bluegrass Ensemble will entertain the crowd.

The concert will begin at 7:00. Admission prices are $1.00 for the afternoon performances and $5.00 for the evening concert or an all-event pass. A family ticket may be purchased for $25.00. Pride and Prejudice Contra Dance A Big Success
An enjoyable time was had by all who attended our Contra Dance in February. We especially want to thank Susanne Davis for her expert instruction and calling of the dance steps. It was great to see people in costume enjoying the music and dance our ancestors loved and participated in so long ago.
Performance Opportunities
If anyone is interested in performing at The Courtyard at Jamestown, a retirement center, please contact Laurie Smith at 377-3730. Our family has done this before and throughly enjoyed the experience of associating with these lovely people.
Another performance opportunity is with the Santaquin Senior Citizens group. They meet at lunchtime on Fridays. If interested, please contact Claudia Peterson at 754-5310.
