Spring Fiddle Fest This Month The Spring Fiddle Fest will be held April 14th in the auditorium of the Tahitian Noni Building at Riverwoods in Provo. Unlike the Fall Fiddle Fest, this event is not a competition so you won’t need to pay an entry fee or fill out a registration form. Groups of all sizes and levels, as well as individuals, are invited to perform three tunes on stage. Performances will begin at noon and proceed through the afternoon. To reserve your performance slot please contact Sheri Cluff at (801) 471-7008 or via email at: This event is a great opportunity to gain performance experience and have some fun at the same time. Pizza parties will be awarded hourly to the performer or band which generates the greatest audience response–so bring your friends and family. That evening a concert featuring the bluegrass bands Brushfire, Strung Together, Just Warming Up, BYU Celtic Ensemble and the BYU Bluegrass Ensemble will entertain the crowd.
Brushfire The concert will begin at 7:00. Admission prices are $1.00 for the afternoon performances and $5.00 for the evening concert or an all-event pass. A family ticket may be purchased for $25.00. For more information and a listing of the afternoon performers, please visit the official Fiddle Fest Website at: April Barn Dance The barn dance will be held Friday, April 6 from 7:00-9:00 at The Barn in Mapleton. Please bring a snack to share with your fellow dancers and musicians. We especially want to thank our hosts, Karen and Kelley Thueson, for allowing us the use of their wonderful facility each month. Their barn and its location provide a great setting for dance and traditional music. Click here for directions. Below is a list of tunes commonly played at the barn dances. The music can be found in the 50 Tunes book. Please use this list as a practice guide for future barn dances unless otherwise noted, i.e. the Texas Swing dance in May will feature additional music. *Arkansas Traveler *Most commonly played tunes at the barn dances. Texas Swing Dance in May The barn dance in May will feature Texas Swing music for two-stepping, Texas swing, waltzing, maybe even a line dance or two. This will be a great night for dancing, food and Texas style fiddling! We’ve invited two young Texas style contest fiddlers to play a few tunes similar to what they would play in a contest setting. I’ll e-mail music for those of you who want to join the band (and who wouldn’t want to play in a Texas Swing band?) as soon as it’s ready to send. Performance Opportunities If anyone is interested in performing at The Courtyard at Jamestown, a retirement center, please contact Laurie Smith at 377-3730. Our family has done this before and throughly enjoyed the experience of associating with these lovely people. Another performance opportunity is with the Santaquin Senior Citizens group. They meet at lunchtime on Fridays. If interested, please contact Claudia Peterson at 754-5310. IAM Calendar Click here to see what is scheduled. IAMF Want Ads For Sale

The Institute of American Music was founded in 1993 for the purpose of providing individuals and groups the opportunity to study traditional American and Bluegrass music. It provides a forum for students at all skill levels whereby they may learn from one another through means of individual lessons, group performances and informal workshops. The Institute provides a well-rounded musical experience for those desiring to develop their talents in acoustic music.
