The Institute of American Music (IAM) was established in 1993 with the purpose of providing books and CDs designed to help individuals learn to play acoustic instruments (like those listed below) with the intent of playing Folk-based music with other people.

IAM will continue to publish new products for the following instruments:

• Banjo
• Bass
• Fiddle
• Guitar
• Piano
• Mandolin

Future products will also include parts and arrangements for:

• Brass and Woodwind
• Voice
• Choir

IAM music styles will always include:

• Celtic (Irish, Scottish, English, Welsh, Cape Breton, Shetland Islands)
• Bluegrass (early and contemporary)
• Early American Sacred (hymns, gospel, spirituals, etc.)
