Bass Basics is a companion guide book to a tune book titled, 50 Tunes for Bass which is a book of tunes that range from beginner to intermediate levels. Bass Basics guides the bass player through the tunes in 50 Tunes for Bass in a manner that makes sense. Bass Basics is also a basic theory book that teaches the bass player how to read and understand fingering, bowing (French and German), chordal accompaniment, left-hand fingering on the bass fingerboard, and more. Bass Basics is for both the upright and electric bass player. Since the 50 Tunes book series (Mandolin, Fiddle, Banjo, Guitar, and Bass) focuses on fiddle tunes, it places the bass into more of an accompanist role than a soloist role. However, 50 Tunes for Bass does present numerous solos to the bass student (should the student wish to learn solos based on fiddle tunes). Overall, 50 Tunes for Bass presents bass parts on 3 levels: basic accompaniment, active accompaniment, and soloing.
